I Love You, I Hate You

Today was hell at work. It’s been a bit less stressed lately but for the last few days, an HR issue has been brewing again. This feud between 2 employees has been going on for years. They hate each other and try to get each other fired. One more than the other but still, I wish they both would just fight it out so I could end their employment. So tomorrow I will be dealing with this all day. I’m a grammar school teacher anymore.

Today was a bit warmer so I knew my run today would not be as enjoyable as yesterday even though I only planned 3.1 miles today. Truthfully, my 6.2 miles yesterday was easier than 3.1 today.

It’s strange how that can be. I am still very sore from the kettlebell workout and I cannot believe after that many days. It’s not the first time that kettlebell routines have left me almost crippled…temporarily.

I hated every single minute of my 3 mile run today. It was just 3 miles and I dreaded it like it was doing burpees for 30 minutes. God, I can’t even imagine that! 🙂 Yesterday, I felt like I could have run a half marathon ore more. Oh well, that’s how it is with running.

How can I hate something so much and read, think, plan about it all time. I get fidgedy when I don’t run but yet try to talk myself out of it everyday. I dread putting on that shoes to hit the road but if I miss a run, I piss, moan and regret it the entire night.

A discussion was going on a running pace on Facebook today about spouses being unsupported in their running efforts. Many were saying how their spouses resent and get mad that their partners spend so much time running and training no matter how the runners go out of way to not impose on their personal time with their families. I am lucky that my husband is a runner but even if he wasn’t, he would never begrudge me doing something that made me healthy and happy. But I am surprised that so many others do not have that support.

My husband knows that every Saturday from now until Oct 19 will be consisting of long runs and me complaining about how tired I am and laying on the couch with feet up the rest of the day! He says he’s good with that because he needs the rest! 🙂 I do keep him going every weekend. 🙂

Well, no sleep for the 2nd night in a row and surely I’ll sleep well tonight. I’m about to head off to bed with Peyton. He comes and gets me every night at about 9pm to go to bed. He loves that extra attention of just he and I.

Neither of our dogs sleep the night with us. They are so big that would never do. I’d let them but Kevin makes them go in the other room.

Off to bed to give Peyton some doggy loving. Eli too but he only stays a few minutes and he’s then off to spend time with his daddy.

We have homemade wine to bottle this coming Sunday. We have about 25 bottles of Strawberry wine and 10 bottles of Blueberry port. We’ve been putting off this bottling for a while. Our brand will be called “Two Bad Dogs” and I’m designing the labels. I can’t wait to try out our wine!

  1. That is exactly how running is. One day we feel like we can go for hours, others days even the smallest distance feels like a marathon! I think ever runner has a love/hate relationship with the sport. All that matters is you got through it!…And strawberry wine sounds divine!

    • I think most runners have that love/hate with it! I try to explain to people who want to run that it’s not fun! lol Most new runners think they are supposed to fall in love with it. I only love it after I’m finished with it. I am hoping the wine tastes as good as it looks! Thanks 🙂

      • I think so too! I do actually love it, but then hate it during hard runs or when I don’t want to run, but know I should be running. I think that you grow to love it, but even then there are days you would rather be doing something else. Enjoy that wine!

  2. Oh, and I meant to say that your wine sounds amazing! My husband’s uncle makes homemade wines and they are fantastic! We look forward to visits so we can taste whatever his latest concoction is. I love the name you chose too!

  3. Thanks for sharing your “hate” side. I used to think some people just love it (any exercising), but sounds like it is a struggle every day to do it for most people. I need to accept that and get the “just do it” attitude. I have gotten to the point where, if I don’t do it, I do miss and regret it. Your wine sounds delicious. Is this a new venture for you, or have you made wine before?

    • I think some people and especially new runners think they are supposed to love it because runners talk about loving it. I also think that discourages new runners sometimes because it’st hard physically. They hate it, dread it and believe they should be loving it like other runners. Honestly, I struggle everyday with running/not running. What I am hooked on is the feeling when I’m finished. Usually I settle in after a mile and start to enjoy my running time I spend thinking about other things or listening to music I love etc. I forget about sadness, stress…sometimes I have a good cry during my run. So…it’s cathartic to me. But…when I finish and get that shower….I feel like I am 25 years old! That’s what I love. That’s why I do it. Yeah, my knees ache, shin splints sometimes…but nothing tops that feeling I get after I finish that run. This is our first batch of homemade wine. We made it back at the end of 2013 and been waiting on the right time to bottle it. 🙂

  4. Spousal support is important. The last thing that we need is a negativity for spousal grumpiness every time we do our thing. I know that I’d be really down if I got the evil eye before band practice. Anyway, I can’t wait to hear the reviews on your wines. I hope that you’ll post your wine label here!

    • You are so right! I think spousal support is important in any endeavor. Everyone needs their muse or outlet. My husband loves guitars, drums, writing screenplays. I have different interests and we leave each other alone during those times. 🙂 I’ll post my label when I get it done. I’m having a creative block right now! I know I want picture of our dogs done in a cartoonish type style but that’s as far as I’ve gotten. 🙂

      • Your husband sounds like he could be my long lost brother! 🙂 I like the idea of the cartoon dogs! Can’t wait to see it.

  5. Ironic that you mentioned your love/hate with running because I was thinking about how much I HATE the beginning of my runs this morning, but once I get moving I’m as happy as can be. Don’t know if that falls in line with your whole “love/hate” message, but thought I’d share just the same.

also I hope work goes better for you. I worked in one of those places where people didn’t get along and HR was involved all the time. Hang in there…it’ll eventually get better. And if you can, go for a run when you get home…or give those kettlebells a good workout to relieve some stress.

    • You are right. Many times I start my run and dread it, hate it but after less than half a mile….I am happy and where I want to be. Someone once ask me why I love to run and I told them I love it when I finish. 🙂

  6. I totally feel you on the some days are better than others! There’s so many factors that can play into a good or bad run – rest, weather, food, work… But it’s always different and hard to pin down!
I think a lot of people who whine about people being unsupportive of their running may be a little drama queen. I’m not saying in every circumstance, but I think some people think that their significant others should say “well since you are running, don’t worry about working/taking care of the house/ taking care of the kids” – anything less than that is “unsupportive” in their worlds… At least in the circle of people I know. I know that my running can be an inconvenience for others around me, and I do my best to make it not so, but I completely understand that others around me shouldn’t have to pick up extra responsibility so I can do my hobby. Ok. End rant. 🙂 have a great day.

    • I totally agree with you on that point! Being a runner or other exercises doesn’t mean you don’t have to do your share around the home and family. I do know people who use that excuse to get out of watching the kids, helping with chores etc. I try to make sure I do my share whether I run or not. My husband does the same…most of the time! 🙂

      • Though my fiancé isn’t a runner, we have a kind of unspoken agreement that we help eachother out with everything, but we both get our stuff done. He can tolerate if I let laundry sit a day or two so I can get runs in, I don’t care if the lawn doesn’t get mowed the same day every week so he can ride his 4 wheeler or watch baseball… Maybe we are just blessed that we are both exceptionally laid back.

      • That sounds like a sound and good relationship. My husband does all the cooking and kitchen cleaning so I’ll do anything else needed! 🙂 I love mowing the yard and hate cooking and dishes 🙂

  7. Wow, I’m sorry you’re experiencing stress!! That stinks!! 😦
Also, I know exactly what you mean. My run today was horrible!! I felt terrible because of the heat and humidity!!
Like you, I feel very lucky that my husband runs with me and that we have mutual love and respect for the sport and for working out in general. That’s fabulous!!
    XOXOXOXO!!! Have a great day!!!

  8. I don’t mind stress so much as long as I can run it off! 🙂 Yeah, some days even 3 miles feels like a 10k! You and I are lucky that we have husbands who share our love of running! 🙂 You have a great day, young lady!

  9. I guess I’m lucky. My husband completely supports me, but I’m only running because I like to run – I’m not training or anything. As for the employees, I always say: Why can’t people just get along, or let things be? It must be frustrating.
